Introduction
Some facts about "Solar Control" glass in roof glazing
- There are several types of glass that offer "Solar Control" to double or triple glazed units.
- Solar Control glazing helps to prevent the build up of heat during hot days.
- Tinted glass absorbs heat whilst Coated glass reflects the heat back to the outside.
- The performance levels of "Solar Control" glass can vary from Low to Moderate to High Performance.
- There are 3 main types of "Solar Control" glass
- Level-1 [Low] ~ Tinted glass.
- Level-2 [Moderate] ~ Clear glass with a "Solar Control" coating.
- Level-3 [High Performance] ~ Tinted glass with a "Solar Control" coating.
- In addition to specific "Solar Control" glass types, there are also "Low E" glass types such as "Planitherm® 4S" that contribute to the "Solar Control" properties of a unit, thus improving the performance even further.
- Due to the complexity of the combinations of Glass Types, Spacer Bars and Gas filling, we have prepared the table below to assist customers in making the best choice for their requirements.

Solar Control - Vertical Glazing
  Incorporating SGG PLANITHERM® 4S
Introduction
SGG PLANITHERM® 4S has been developed especially for conservatory glazing applications and for large areas of glazing such as Patio doors, Bi-fold doors and Gable style glazing.
SGG PLANITHERM® 4S offers excellent solar control properties, reduced glare and enhanced thermal insulation SGG PLANITHERM® 4S provides true year round comfort when used throughout the conservatory
SGG PLANITHERM® 4S is a glass which has been specifically designed to reduce heat build up in the home and is particularly useful when glazed areas are "south facing". PLANITHERM® 4S is a better choice for "Solar Control" than the standard Planitherm Total + and it also offers a U-Value of 1.0 W/m2 K when used in a 4-16-4 Argon filled unit.
